Thoughts From Our Ladies

Emily - Junior Captain

“Being a member of Bishopswood feels like being part of a huge family – everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. There’s always a sense of friendly competition.”

Jeannette - Lady Member

For my part learning to play golf years ago opened another world for me. I learnt a game which fulfilled my competitive spirit. Golf provides all women, whatever level, access to enjoy the game of golf. One mixes with people you may never have met otherwise. Golf is a great leveller. Playing at other clubs and making new friends is a bonus

Gill - Lady Member

I enjoy playing golf as it gets me outside and walking plus something to focus on for enjoyment and possibly improvement. I particularly enjoy belonging to Bishopswood not only for golf , but the friendship and support there is within the club . Under normal times there is always someone to have a passing chat with or a coffee in our lovely clubhouse

Mabel - Lady Member

Personally, getting out to golf lifts my mood, therefore good for my mental health. It also helps with my fitness. Playing golf you meet and play with other ladies. Bishopswood ladies are a very friendly and sociable group and through golf I now have many good friends.

Carole - Lady Member

I like playing golf because it is an outdoor sport that can be played all year round. It is challenging but fun and the ladies are very sociable and inclusive. Bishopswood is a very friendly club. There are many competitions and fun events scheduled throughout the year which provides the opportunity to meet other members, both men and women. The ladies weekly roll up is very well attended and each week offers different playing partners, another way to meet members. The course is very pretty whatever the season and is well maintained.

Junior Golf at Bishopswood

What is on offer for Juniors at Bishopswood?

Bishopswood is SafeGolf Compliant, which means that all personnel at Bishopswood involved with coaching children have been assessed and have met the high levels of safeguarding & welfare standards as laid down by England Golf.

We are very proud to have achieved this accreditation, which allows us to continue with our commitment to promote golf to local young people though our Junior Golf Academy .

So why not bring your young golfers to give Bishopswood a try, all new Junior members will receive:

  • A Welcome Meeting – when your child joins Bishopswood they will have a welcome meeting with the Junior Organiser. This enables us to understand what aspirations they have and gets them started on the road to achievement.
  • Competitions – Friendly junior competitions take place so that players can obtain a handicap. Juniors with a WHS handicap can play in all club medals and Stableford competitions as age is not a restriction.
  • League Matches – Bishopswood is a member of the local junior league and play against other clubs from April through to October.
  • Tuition & Coaching – Juniors are offered regular member only coaching sessions with our PGA Golf Professional. The fee is discounted and the Golf Club contributes 50% of the fees charged; lessons are provided all year round and typically will cost around £3. Juniors are referred for county coaching when their performance reaches a level that our Professional feels justifies this action.
  • News and Events -Juniors are kept up to date with news and events via the notice boards and our website; there is a dedicated section for juniors. Parents are kept up to date via emails.
  • Benefits – As a member, juniors will be issued with a club membership card which allows them to purchase refreshments at discounted rates from the Pro Shop and the Clubhouse.
